Abstract

1426110 Removing liquids using an electrical field AGFA-GEVAERT AG 8 Feb 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 6244/73 Heading F4G An electrode in an electro-static copying machine has a plurality of convex regions directed towards a surface to be dried, the electrode having a potential difference to the surface so that the regions emit a stream of ions to the surface to move liquid from the surface. Fig. 1 shows two straight electrodes 5, comb-shaped, which are moved over the surface, the electrodes being at a lower potential than the surface. Liquid is forced from the surface by electrode movement and collects in channels 1a around the surface. The electrodes may be V-shaped in horizontal cross-section, the apices extending in the direction of electrode movement so that liquid is displaced laterally to the movement. An electrode may be cylindrical with protruding teeth and is rotated during electrodesurface movement (Fig. 3, not shown). The comb-shaped electrode(s) may be at an angle to the direction of movement. The surface may be moved with the electrode stationary.
