Abstract

1388483 Developing electrostatic images FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 16 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 12464/72 Heading G2H Electrostatic latent images are developed with a suspension of a graft pigment in an electrically insulating liquid, the developer being applied to the image bearing surface 13 directly or indirectly by means of a wick 20. The wick may contact the surface, Fig. 2A, or a transfer roller 40 may be interposed between the wick and the surface, Fig. 4. A further wick 30 may be used to wet the surface with insulating liquid 32, Fig. 4, before development. The developer may be retained in the reservoir by means of a stuffing material 50, Fig. 5. The pigment may comprise carbon black which has been graft-copolymerized with an acrylate monomer. A polar monomer (examples are given) may also be copolymerized. The wick may be of felt, flannelette, or woven or non- woven glass fibres.
