Abstract

138,812. Smith, F. W. July 14. 1919. Swivelling joints; overlap joints with packing at base of socket; stuffing-box joints.-Relates to means for connecting the oil-pipes of a force feed lubricator to the lubricant unions on the bearings. The lubricant union 1 has a threaded stem 2 for attachment to the bearing in place of the usual grease cup. It contains a swivelling bored plug 9 having bevelled faces which bear respectively against packing 6 and against the face 8 of the thimble 7. The plug is pressed against the face 8 by a spring 5. The elbow 14 receives the two halves 16, 16, of a split soft-metal sleeve which embraces the tube 15. A soft brass ring 26 is compressed by a hollow nut 20 to form a tight joint. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the halves 16, 16, of a soft-metal conical sleeve are compressed against the inner pipe 15 by the hollow nut 20 co-operating with the interior conical surface of the elbow 14. The device is provided with ball valves as shown.
