Abstract

1387847 Pistons LINDE AG 17 May 1972 [18 May 1971] 23061/72 Heading F2T A captive piston ring is made by producing an extruded length of PTFE or a similar fluorinecontaining resin having a cross-section substantially the same as the finished ring, cutting a length equal to the required peripheral length of the ring and introducing said cut length into a piston groove having a cross-section corresponding to that of the ring. The extruded lengths may be in rod or ribbon form and the flank surfaces may be produced to their final size during extruding or by mechanical finishing. The cut length is introduced tangentially into the piston groove through a window having a shape corresponding to the cross-section of the ring and the cut length may be straight or curved before insertion in the groove. The ring is held captive by the undercut cross-section of the groove. Specification 1,267,173 is referred to.
