Abstract

1459059 Making commutators KABELUND METALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 10 April 1975 [30 April 1974] 14780/75 Heading B3A A method of making a commutator comprises extruding a copper or copper alloy blank into an intermediate product comprising an annular flange 2 and segments 3 extending from the flange, cutting apertures (4), Fig. 3 (not shown), out of the flange between the segments so as to leave a ring (5) holding the segments together, compressing the intermediate product radially to bring the segments to the spacing required in the finished commutator, filling the spaces between the segments with insulating material and machining the resulting structure to the required final dimension. When the product is compressed the ring (5) is formed into bulges 8, which are machined off subsequently. The spaces between the segments are filled with, e.g. shellac, by injection moulding.
