Abstract

1308555 Commutators for dynamo-electric machines ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 3 July 1970 [5 July 1969] 32310/70 Heading H2A [Also in Division B3] A method of making a commutator segment ring 22, comprises extruding a plurality of metal blanks 10, 11, one of which is of copper, to form a ring having an outer layer of copper and an inner layer having means for anchoring the ring to a hub of insulating material, the layers being jointed to each other along their contact surfaces during extrusion. The blanks are made from bars by cold extrusion and/or stamping or cut from tubes and are provided with mating conical surfaces 10a, 11a. The blanks are placed in a die 13 and extruded by an inner die 17, which forms axially extending grooves internally of the ring 22. The blank 10, which is of aluminium is formed with a collar 24 and a copper contact surface 25 is formed by the blank 11. The hub (27) is then inserted in the ring, Fig. 5 (not shown), which is sawn to form the individual commutator segments (29) and connecting lugs (30).
