Abstract

1349944 Moulding pistons HEPWORTH & GRANDAGE Ltd 4 May 1971 [4 May 1970] 21419/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] A piston 10 of resilient plastics material having a pair of oppositely directed sealing lips at its outer periphery (see also Division F2) may be made by compacting powdered P.T.F.E. filled with graphite in a cylinder 20 between a pair of rams 21 having shaped end faces 23 to provide the piston profile and a central bore 24 for a mandrel 25. The compact is then sintered, for example, at 380‹ C. The plastics material may be P.T.F.E., nylon, polypropylene, polyurethane or polyamide and the P.T.F.E. or nylon is preferably filled with a filler, for example, graphite, glass fibre or bronze.
