1434648 Pistons COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 17 Oct 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 48466/73 Heading F2T A piston 1 for a volumetric metering pump comprises a body portion 3 and at least one resilient sealing ring 5 connected to the hub portion by a deformable diaphragm 4, each ring having two sealing lips 7a, 7b separated by a groove 8 and the generatrix of each diaphragm forming an acute angle with the piston axis in the direction of piston movement F 1 during a delivery stroke so that, in use, the lips 7a and 7b are respectively urged against the cylinder wall 9 by diaphragm deformation during a delivery stroke and a suction stroke respectively. The piston may be of polyethylene or P.T.F.E.
