Abstract

1387827 Heat exchangers ASSOCIATED ENG Ltd 10 July 1972 33623/71 Heading F4S Adjacent heat exchanging fluid passages 14, 15 (e.g. for a hot air stream and a cooler air stream), each have longitudinal fins therein, and in each passage the fin is formed from corrugated strip (e.g. aluminium foil), consisting of fin portions 16 (which extend across the passage), separated by intermediate portions 17 these being in heat conducting relationship with the fins in the adjacent passage; and adjacent fin portions 16 in each passage being inclined towards each other from portions 17 between said adjacent fin portions. In one form, Figs. 1 and 4, the intermediate parts 17 together form a passage wall in abutment with a similarly formed wall of an adjacent passage, the two walls being bonded together by means such as a synthetic resin adhesive. In another form (Figs. 6 and 8), the corrugated strip fin elements are inserted into spaced tubular ducts 22 constituting the passages 14, other corrugated strip fin elements being placed in the passages 15 between adjacent ducts. The fin elements are bonded to the tube walls. In this form also a header for the passages 14 is formed at the ends of the stack of ducts by semicircular end pieces 25, Fig. 5 of aluminium or plastics material, and aluminium collars 23. Louvres 18 may be formed in the fins 16. The heat exchanging fluids may be in cross-flow (as shown), or counterflow relation.
