Abstract

1418836 Finned-tube heat exchangers THERMO ELECTRON CORP 12 June 1973 [13 June 1972] 27967/73 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising one or more tubes 12 extending through a fin structure of corrugated or pleated form, the corrugations or pleats 14 are provided with perforations 18 which serve to direct air passing through the heat exchanger against unperforated areas in adjacent fin portions to break up boundary layers of fluid normally adhering to the fin surface. Adjacent fin portions may be inclined with respect to one another, as shown, or alternatively they may be parallel to one another (see Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). The fins are provided with flange portions 16 which are in good heat conducting relationship with the tube or tubes 12 passing therethrough. The heat exchanger may be used for condensing vapour or evaporating liquid.
