Abstract

1387784 Vortex tubes OWATONNA TOOL CO 1 Aug 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 36663/73 Heading F4H A vortex tube comprises an air inlet 30 in a body member 10 having a central recess 15 to receive a plug section 16 of a further member 11 secured to the body member 10 by attaching members (not shown), the air passing to an annular plenum chamber 22 for tangential flow through channels 23 to a vortex chamber 21, defined by a section 25 of the body member 10 and the plug section 16. An annular pervious filter screen 31 is positioned within the plenum chamber. The member 11 has a divergent cold air outlet passage 40 extending from the vortex chamber and the member 10 has a warm air outlet extension 45 providing a tubular passage 46. A nozzle and valve unit 50 having a restricted air passage 52 and insert 53 is threadably mounted on the extension 45 so that a transverse wall 51 thereof may be moved relative to the extension 45 to allow an adjustable volume of warm air from the passage 46 through a passage 60 in a peripheral wall 61 of the unit 50.
