Abstract

1387236 Crimping tool A J SCOTTO 20 July 1973 [30 May 1973] 34764/73 Heading B4W A hand tool for crimping a metal spike 52, Fig. 13, to the stem of a flower 56, comprises a pair of pivotally connected handle levers 12, 14, a frame 48 connected to the pivot 16, track means 72 fixed to the frame for guiding the metal spike from a storage position to a clamping position, jaw means 34 (36) connected to the frame 48 and to the levers 12, 14 for crimping the spike, feed means 78 operatively mounted on the track means for displacing the spike to the clamping position and actuating means 80 mounted on the frame for operating the feed means 78. The jaws 34 (36) comprise interleaved plates 40 and spacers 42 the plates 40 being suitably spaced to engage and crimp laterally projecting arms 68 of the metal spike; the jaws are pivoted on the frame by respective pivot pins 46 and are connected to the ends of levers 12, 14 by further pivot pins 38. A magazine 76 for nested spikes 52 is provided by two projecting arms 82, a spring loaded rod 98 with catch 94 being provided to bias the nested spikes towards the track 72. The handle levers 12, 14 are provided with co-operating cutting edges 58, 60 for cutting the stem of the flower.
