Abstract

1,025,342. Wire grippers. FREDK. A. POWER & SONS Ltd. Jan. 21, 1965 [Jan. 21, 1964], No. 2535/64. Heading F2G. A wire gripper assembly comprises a fixed gripper and a movable gripper, the former being rigidly mounted on one end face of a U-shaped base member and the latter being slidably mounted on two rods for movement between the two legs of the U -shaped base. Both grippers have a similar construction and include a pivotally mounted jaw 28, the lower edge 30 of which is serrated and a base 41. The base 41 is provided with a plug 42 the height of projection of which above the base 41 being adjustable to form a step 53 across which a wire or the like 52 passes when the gripper is in use. The jaw 28 is spring loaded into its gripping position and the tooth 54 of the jaw co-operates with the wire initially at a point between the axis of the pivot 27 of the jaw 28 and the step 53. The movable gripper is actuated by a spring-loaded lever and the fixed gripper is de-activated by a pivotally mounted plate. The grippers are held in their assembled condition by cover-plates.
