Abstract

1451919 Clamps BREG (ENG) Ltd 8 Dec 1973 56998/73 Heading E2B A spring clamp of the kind comprising arms 1, 2 pivoted together intermediate their ends and providing or being provided with a pair of biassed-together opposed jaws 4, 5 and a pair of handle portions 6, 7 there is provided additional biassing means constituted by a resiliently compressible member which is displaceable from a first unstressed position into a second position in which it is compressed and acts between the handle portions to bias closed the jaws. As shown, a helical spring 11 is supported by a rod 10 slidable and pivotable in a hole 9 in the handle portion 6 and having a handle 14 formed as a hook, by which the end 13 of the rod is pulled away from the pivot 3, surrounded by a torsion spring, to a stop 8 on the handle portion 7 whereby the spring is compressed. In modifications, (a) the end of the rod 10 is bent-over after passing through the hole 9, or has an enlarged head and is formed with a bulbous head in place of the end 13 shown in Fig. 1, the handle 14 being mounted on the sleeve 12 (b) a torsion spring 17, pivoted at 18 to the handle portion 6, 7, (c) a shaped hollow or solid mass of resiliently compressible material, such as rubber is disposed between the handle portions.
