Abstract

1386862 Planting device KOPPARFORS AB 8 Feb 1972 [9 Feb 1971] 5847!72 Headings A1B and AID A planting device includes a rotating downwardly pointing hollow cone 1 formed by at least two cone parts 2a, 2b pivoted about pivots 3a, 3b respectively on a holder 4 and arranged with their adjacent edges 6, 5 radially separated leaving a longitudinal gap 7 between them. The cone halves extend upwardly to form members 8a, 8b which engage a locking member 9 with its outer surface matching the conical shape of members 8a, 8b. Cone parts 2a, 2b are thus held closed together. In operation the planter is rotated by the hollow shaft 12 and plants, fed down the shaft and guided through a central opening in holder 4 by rods 17 downwardly depending from the holder, come to rest against the cone surface. The planter is lowered into the earth and the soil loosened by the outer edge which leads with respect to the direction of rotation, is pushed, by the rotation, through opening 7 and into the cone 1 where it is packed around the tuber 18 of the plant, while tools 19, 20, fixed to holder 4 at different radial distances from shaft 12, cultivate concentric regions of ground surface. Then, by means of wires (not shown) attached to eyes 16 of bolts 13 fixed to plate 11, the plate 11 is raised to the level of plate 15 secured vertically to shaft 12, taking with it locking member 9 which is held to plate 11 by flange 10. This leaves cone parts 2a, 2b free to pivot as members 8a, 8b no longer engage member 9. and further raising of plate 11 lifts the whole device leaving the plant in the soil.
