Abstract

1385312 Welding by fusion BOHLER & CO AG Gebr 31 Aug 1973 [28 Sept 1972] 41148/73 Heading B3R [Also in Division C7] A coated cellulose type welding electrode containing more than 20% cellulose in the coating in relation to the non-metallics content with a core wire diameter of at least 4À5 mm. and a coated diameter 135-155% of the core has a coating satisfying the following conditions: (a) an Fe powder content of 25% maximum of the total electrode weight; (b) weight ratio of Fe: cellulose is 3 to 5 : 1; (c) free water content of 1À5-6% weight; (d) at least 12% weight Na 2 SiO 3 ; (e) 0-6% weight carbonates with CaCO 3 <4%. The Fe powder has a maximum C content of 0À2%, with at least 65% plus 0À18 mm. and at most 35% minus 0À125 mm. The preferred Fe content is 5-15%, the Na 2 SiO 3 content 15-30% and up to 30% of alloying agents such as Ni, Cr, Mo, V and/or W may be included. Specific coating compositions also contain asbestos and nitrile. The core wire is preferably steel and the electrode is used for welding high tensile steel pipe.
