Abstract

554,352. Alloys; fluxes; welding. EVERY. C. E. (Titanium Alloy Manufacturing Co.). March 17, 1942, No. 3559. [Classes 82 (i) and 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A welding rod particularly for use in welding chromium steels consists of iron containing 4-6 per cent. of chromium. 1-10 per cent. of titanium, and up to 0.1 per cent. of carbon with or without up to 1 per cent. of molybdenum, up to 1 per cent. of manganese and up to 2 per cent. of silicon. The resulting welded joint may contain 4-6 per cent. of chromium, 0.4-4 per cent. of titanium and less than 0.1 per cent. of carbon, with or without the above amounts of molybdenum, manganese, and silicon, the titanium content being at least 4 times the carbon content. The rod is provided with a coating containing not more than 5 per cent. of substances reducible by titanium, for example calcium fluoride bound with a small proportion of sodium silicate.
