Abstract
1385300 Carburetter choke control GENERAL MOTORS CORP 19 July 1973 [12 Sept 1972] 34485/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A vacuum responsive unit, for operating a carburetter choke valve (14), Fig. 1 (not shown) in response to inlet vacuum, has a chamber 70 formed by a cover 30, Fig. 2 closed by a spring- biased diaphragm 38 which moves to position the choke valve, a tubular extension of the cover being connectible to an engine intake vacuum source with a valve 80 between the extension and the chamber, an air bleed 98 arranged between the valve and the vacuum source so that with a pressure increase in the vacuum source there is a reduction in flow from the opening 98 to the source and a flow of air from the opening 98 to the chamber 70 which prevents material in the vacuum source from encountering the valve and an air filter 102 being arranged over the opening. Engine intake vacuum in chamber 70 causes diaphragm 38 to move guide 44 to the left thereby compressing spring 48 to bias arm 46 and link 52 to the left to move lever 22, shaft 18 and choke valve 14 in the clockwise direction to open the choke valve 14. When intake pressure increases valve disc 82 is displaced from O-ring 80 against resilient finger 84 to permit fluid-flow into chamber 70 and upon a decrease in manifold pressure the finger 84 presses valve disc 82 against O-ring 80 to restrict flow to chamber 70 to the flow through a notch (96), Fig. 3 (not shown) in valve disc 82. Air is drawn continuously through opening 104, filter 102 and opening 98 so that when intake pressure increases the pressure in chamber 70 increases by a filtered air-flow from opening 98 to prevent foreign matter from being deposited in notch (96).
