Abstract

1,192,627. Pipe joints; valves. HOLLEY CARBURETOR CO. 2 Oct., 1967 [5 Oct., 1966], No. 44701/67. Headings F2G and F2V. [Also in Division F1] The flow of air from an air pump to the exhaust manifold of an I.C. engine (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), is controlled by a valve 66 operated against the bias of a spring 64, by intake manifold vacuum applied in a chamber 62 to a diaphragm 46, to close a passage 36 to the outlet 38. The valve 66 is connected by a forked stem 126 to a tilting disc valve 114 which allows air to be vented through a porous sintered metal silencing element 118. The valve 114 operates independently of the valve 66 as a pressure relief valve. The vent valve may be a cylindrical valve (73), Fig. 1, arranged coaxially with the passage closing valve (66) for operation by a rod (54) connected to the passage closing valve. The valve actuating diaphragm 46 is provided with a calibrated opening 96 which controls the period of valve closure. The valve housing 104 is releasably secured to the pump housing 110 by a resilient ring 138 which engages in grooves 134 and 136 in the valve housing and pump housing, respectively.
