Abstract
1384893 Domestic laundry machines WILKINS & MITCHELL Ltd 9 Jan 1973 [15 Jan 1972] 2009/72 Heading F4G [Also in Division F2] The lid or door 32 of a laundry machine for washing and/or drying clothes in a drum 12 is linked to a roller 29 so that opening movement of the lid 32 moves the roller 29 towards a toothed wheel 23 on the shaft 17 of the drum 12; only if the drum 12 is no longer rotating is opening of the lid 32 permitted by movement of the roller 29 between a pair of the curved teeth 24 of the wheel 23. The lid 32 is connected by crank 34 and link 31 to an arm 30 on a shaft 27 which has an arm 28 supporting the roller 29. Alternatively, the link 31 may be arranged to act in tension by re-positioning of crank 34 and arm 30. The roller 29 may be mounted instead on a slide moved by a bell crank operated by link 31. As shown the spin dryer of a twin-tube machine comprises a drive motor 13 driving a belt 14 tensioned at 15 and engaging a pulley 16 on the drum shaft 17, the toothed wheel 23 forming an extension of the pulley flange 22.
