Abstract
1384264 Al-Mg-Si alloy parts HONSELWERKE AG 9 Feb 1972 6000/72 Heading C7A A structural part, subjected, in use, to differential stresses, (e.g. a cylinder head), is made from an alloy consisting of:- Mg 2À5-11% Si 0À6-4À5% Mn 0À6-1À8% Be 0-0À005% Cu 0-0À5% Ni 0-2% Ti 0-0À3% the balance, apart from impurities, being Al wherein the relative amounts of Mg and Si are so chosen that 1-4À5% of Mg is not bound to Si as Mg 2 Si. It is preferred that highly stressed areas of the part should be subjected to more intense cooling than other areas during solidification of the melt. The Mn content may be wholly or partially replaced by 0À1-1À8% Co and/or 0À6-1À8% Cr. In examples alloys are solution treated at 565‹C and quenched in water with optional ageing at 155 C or 175‹C.
