Abstract
1384014 Boron; silicon; borides; carbides and nitrides of silicon, boron and metals PFIZER Inc 30 May 1972 [17 June 1971 26 Nov 1971] 25333/72 Addition to 1292534 Heading C1A A thin film of substantially defect free, non- oxygen containing refractory material is formed by depositing said material from the vapour phase on to the surface of a film of pyrolytic graphite, which graphite film has been formed by the pyrolysis of a gaseous hydrocarbon mixed with an inert gas and deposition on to the surface of an inert liquid substrate which substrate is smooth and stress free and maintained at a temperature below 2100‹ C.; and separating the refractory film from said graphite film. The refractory material may be a carbide of silicon, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, chromium or boron, or a boride of silicon, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, chromium, or aluminium, a nitride of silicon, titanium, hafnium, vanadium, boron or aluminium or elementary boron or silicon. The molten metal substrate may be copper, gold, tin, silver, palladium, lead, antimony, platinum or glass.
