Abstract
1383707 Heat-treating large diameter pipe AJAX MAGNETHERMIC CORP 18 Aug 1972 [8 Sept 1971] 38743/72 Heading C7N In a processs for hardening and tempering by induction scan heating a pipe is advanced through an induction coil and a water spray and is then returned through the same coil at a higher speed for tempering; there are two treatment lines in parallel on which pipes are treated alternately in overlapping cycles. As illustrated, pipes P arriving on a central conveyor are transferred alternately to conveyor lines 12 or 13 by which they are carried through restraining rolls 16, induction coil 17 quench ring 18 and restraining rolls 19. Additionally the pipes may be internally quenched by a head mounted on coolant supply conduit 20. The pipes are then returned through the coil, residual coolant being removed by air blast 27 and are shifted to discharge bed 24 by transfer mechanism 25 having arms 26 which simultaneously bring a fresh pipe into the feed position.
