Abstract
1383649 Fluid operated counter NEUMO Ltd 30 Aug 1972 [1 Sept 1971] 40862/71 Heading G4D [Also in Division F2] A counter operated by pulses of fluid pressure includes a ratchet wheel 1 (Fig. 3); a piston and cylinder actuating device 9, 12 which is extensible to drive the wheel 1; and a device 22, 23 for pivoting the cylinder 9 towards the ratchet wheel. The fluid pulses are applied simultaneously to the cylinder 9, at 14, and the cylinder 22, at 25. Both pistons 11, 23 are thus moved to bring the end of a push-rod 12 into engagement with the ratchet wheel. When the pulse ends the rod 12 is held against the ratchet wheel only by a light spring 24 thus reducing wear. A further device 20 operated by fluid pressure grips the rod 12 at the limit of its movement to prevent overthrow. The ratchet wheel 1 is fixed to a hollow shaft 2 (Fig. 1) which also carries a pointer 46 indicating the count and an arm 34. A second coaxial shaft 31 is rotatable to place a spring loaded peg 45 in any one of a number of holes 41. The shaft 31 carries a valve assembly 37 which is operated by the arm 34. when the pointer 46 is coincident with peg 45, to power a resetting piston 57 which drives the shaft 2 back to zero by a rack-and-pinion 50, 52.
