Abstract
1375043 Pneumatic actuators NORRIS BROS Ltd 15 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971 9 Oct 1971] 13539/71 and 47095/71 Heading F1D In a pneumatic actuator of tie-rod construction, the ends of the stroke are damped by a boss 20, Fig. 2, on the piston 13 provided with a seal 30 which engages in a recess 42 in an end-cap 11 and a boss 53 with a seal 60 on an end-cap 12 which engages a recess 21 in me piston. Air which damps the piston movement is vented through transverse bores in the end-caps, provided with adjustable throttles 90, Fig. 3 (not shown). Fig. 4 shows an embodiment in which a square-section rod 100 passes through the piston and a tubular piston rod 31 to prevent rotation thereof. A bearing 101 having a low coefficient of friction is provided. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which micro-switches 142 are operated at each end of the stroke by spring-loaded plungers 140, 141, cammed upwards by a rod 120 which is displaced at the end of one stroke by the piston and at the end of the return stroke by an adjustable stop 143. A solenoid valve assembly as described in Specification 1320312 may be used with the actuator.
