1383517 Toothed gearing BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 18 Dec 1972 [31 Dec 1971] 60952/71 Heading F2Q In a rack-and-pinion steering mechanism, the teeth of a rack 1 are urged into engagement with those of the pinion by a spring 5 acting through a piston 34 which is located with clearance in a cylinder 11 to provide a restricted path for the flow of hydraulic fluid between the cylinder 11 and a chamber 13 formed by a flexible boot 7 which connects the piston 34 and a body portion 4.
