Abstract

To cut off hydraulic power-assistance at a desired position of a power piston 1 in a steering gear comprising a recirculating ball nut or steering nut constructed as a power piston 1 and co-operating with a steering worm 6 a valve 4 is provided in the power piston which valve, when the desired power piston end position is reached, is actuated by a pin 141 or 13 disposed respectively in the end of the worm 6 or the base of a steering gear housing Z to establish a connection between a cylinder chamber on one side of the piston 1 under hydraulic pressure and a cylinder chamber on the other side which is connected to a pressurerelieved return flow. On rotation of the worm 6 a valve 19 selectively connects the two cylinder chambers to the hydraulic pressure source and return flow. Rings 21, 22 may be disposed in the ends of the power cylinder to limit deflection of the steering sector 8.
