Abstract

1383311 Valves UNITED GAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 April 1972 [1 May 1971] 12590/71 Heading F2V A thermostatically operated gas valve assembly comprises an isolating valve member 16 co-operating with a seat 18 of an inlet passage 11 and, in series, a thermostatically operated valve member 22 co-operating with a seat 20. The valve member 16 comprises a sleeve having a central gas passage and is urged upwardly towards a stop 48 by a spring 45. The valve member 22 is controlled by movements of a diaphragm unit 23 and is urged upwardly by a leaf spring 31. A manual control shaft 33 carries a cam 34, rotary movements of which move a piston 35 and a lever 38 pivoted at 39 to adjust the position of the diaphragm unit. With the shaft in the "off" position, both valves 16 and 22 are closed. On turning the shaft 33, firstly the isolating valve is lifted from its seat and abuts the stop 48 and then the desired temperature is selected by movement of the thermostatic valve above. A trimming screw 36 is provided for adjusting the central point of the thermostat. A by-pass (not shown) is provided across the thermostatic valve. Excess movement of the thermostatic valve on closure is taken up by the spring 45; however, the movement is never sufficient to shut off the isolating valve. In an alternative construction the capillary tube is connected to the diaphragm unit by a single coil and an S bend (53) (Fig. 2, not shown).
