Abstract

In a thermostatic control valve, with manual override, for controlling the flow of hot coolant from an inlet 1 past a valve seating 3 to the heat exchanger of a vehicle fan heater, a temperature responsive device 38 is actuated by expansible fluid in a capillary tube 61, heated by air leaving the vehicle heater, so that a member 39 is displaced therefrom to pivot a lever 28, via manually adjustable interconnecting means, about a fixed pivot 35 against spring 30, to bear upon a spring 27 to seat valve closure 5 via a bracket 22 fixed to the valve stem 6 and displaceable upon a lug 20 fixed to a casing 19. The manually adjustable interconnecting means comprise co-axially sliding flanged cylindrical members 41 and 49 bearing against lever adjusting screw 58 and fixed against rotation by lugs. Respective face cams 42, 55 on the interior faces of flanges 50 and 54 are separated by engagement with a cam ring 43 therebetween as this is rotated by the inner core of a flexible control cable fixed to an arm 46 thereof. With the manually adjustable interconnecting means in the Fig. 3a position, the total possible movement of member 39 is insufficient to close the valve and, in the Fig. 3b position, is insufficient to open the valve.
