1382461 Expandable bobbin carrier MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 24 Feb 1972 [27 Feb 1971] 8601/72 Heading D1J [Also in Division F2] A bobbin carrier comprises a support and a cap expandable to grip a bobbin tube, the cap being expanded when pushed onto the support by an elastic ring rolled, by the cap movement, from a groove in the support. The carrier may comprise, Figure 1, a support 1 having groove 5 initially accommodating a rubber ring 7, Figure 2, which is of circular cross-section when unstressed. The movement of cap 9, with bobbin tube 2, along support 1 causes cap taper 12 to push the ring from groove 5 onto the cylindrical support surface 6, thus outwardly deflecting the cap tongues 11, separated by slots, to grip the tube 2. When tube 2 engages support surface 4, ring 7 is located in cap groove 13a which may alternatively extend to the open cap end. The support and cap have projections 8, 14 which co-act to prevent easy cap removal. The distance between ring positions A and B is less than, but more than half, the circumference of the ring's cross-section, which feature is said to cause the ring when rolled to position B to bias tube 2 towards stop 3. The cap and wound package may be withdrawn, and the cap contracted, by manually pulling on cap hole, a cap handle or a key inserted in a cap hole, or by passing pressurised fluid through connection 25.
