Abstract

1382118 Offshore platforms REDPATH DORMAN LONG (NORTH SEA) Ltd 7 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5609/72 Heading E1H An offshore platform assembly comprising a foundation structure 20, a substructure 22 including support columns 32 projecting above the water surface, and a platform 26, has means 116 for supporting the platform 26 on the columns 32. which does not transmit the bending forces due to wave action from the columns 32 to the platform. The supporting means may take the form of part-cylindrical or part-spherical bearing surfaces on the columns and/or on the platform, or pivotjoints comprising a single pin, Fig. 8 (not shown) or two, mutually perpendicular, pins Fig. 9 (not shown). The platform assembly is formed by floating out the foundation and substructure, ballasting them and sinking the foundation into the sea-bed, then floating the platform between the columns 32 and winching it out of the water, brackets 114 being extended to cooperate with the support means 116.
