Abstract
The installation process applies to maritime platforms e.g. for oil fields and entails the mounting of a platform on a submerged gravity type substructure whilst at sea. The substructure has columsn projecting from a hollow base block and is floated together with the platform to the permanent site. The connection is then made by submerging the substructure and floating the platform into the correctly aligned position overhead. The substructure is partially submerged by filling the base with sea water, and complete submersion effected by winches with cables to a sea-bed anchorate. Once the platform is located above, the substructure is allowed to rise, and the connection is made by platform winches with cables to the substructure. The assembled rig is now floated onto a prepared foundation at a nominally higher bed level.
