Abstract
1379392 Coating road surfaces BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 15 March 1972 [24 March 1971] 7743/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A method of restoring a worn road surface comprises the steps of coating the road surface with a binder composition containing tall oil heads and a road surfacing hydrocarbons mixture and then applying stone aggregates to the coated road surface. The proportion of tall oil heads in the binder is 1.5-10% of the weight of the road surfacing hydrocarbon mixture. The term. "tall oil heads" describes the lighter components obtained by the distillation of crude tall oil. The term "road surfacing hydrocarbon mixture" is defined as those mixtures conventionally used in road surfacing, e.g. asphalt, bitumen, pitch and tar. Suitable stone aggregates are chips of whinstone, green granite, limestone, bassalt and blast furnace slag. The aggregate may be pre-coated with 0.5-1.0% by weight of bitumen.
