Abstract

1379284 Heating and crimping yarns PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 22 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30094/72 Heading D1F A heater which enables synthetic yarns to pass successively in reverse directions over two faces of a contact heater, e.g. whilst false-twist is being inserted to produce a crimped yarn, comprises at one or each end a stationary curved portion presenting a curved guide surface for the yarn as it passes from face to face. The guide surface(s) may be heated by conduction from the heater body and, preferably, twist in the yarn (running back from the falsetwister through the heater) is not arrested thereby. The apparatus shown comprises a body 1 formed by side plates 2 and a core portion therebetween (in which an electrical heating coil is housed) and having heating faces 3. End caps 5, which may be removably attached to flat ends 4 of the body 1, provide smooth transition of yarn between faces 3 along grooves 7 in guide surfaces 6.
