1379076 Restoring to shape SAAB-SCANIA AB 26 Jan 1972 [5 Feb 1971] 3724/72 Heading B3Q A vehicle body and frame straightener comprises a wheeled unit 1 on which a substantially flat bracket is longitudinally movable on one edge, the bracket having abutment surfaces, bearing points &c. for connection to auxiliary straightening devices. As applied to straightening a frame 4, 5 in the horizontal plane, three units 1 are used, the outer ones being reaction units and the centre unit applying the straightening force, by means of hydraulic rams 19 which are preferably single-acting against return springs 22. The rams engage lugs 20 on the bracket 15 which is guided between side plates 7 of the unit, the lugs 20 passing through upper slots 12, and a pin 23 for the return springs engaging lower slots 13. Rollers 16 on the bracket 15 bear on the unit and an upper member 25 attached to the bracket applies force to the frame 4. A roller 17 overlies the front of the bracket. The wheels 29 are carried by levers or lugs 30 on shafts 31 which are turned, to retract the wheels, by pneumatic cylinders 32. In the outer, reaction units 1 the brackets 48 are secured by pins 50 and engage the frame by means of extension members 51. After retracting the wheels, the units 1 are fixed to the floor by pins passing through holes in the base plates 6, U- clamps secured by bolts, or by levers 38 operated by pneumatic cylinders 35 and locked by wedges 40. For operating in the vertical, Fig. 2, the bracket 15 is disconnected from the jacks 19, which are attached to a straightening member 41 connected by a link 42 to the unit.
