Abstract

1378592 Reinforced foam mouldings BAYER AG 1 Feb 1972 [1 Feb 1971 7 May 1971] 4660/72 Heading B5A Reinforced foam mouldings are produced by (a) coating a mould surface with a viscous, hardenable adhesive or gel-coat, (b) applying a reinforcing insert thereon while it is still viscous, (c) covering the insert with an airtight, flexible film and sealing it to the mould beyond the insert, (d) evacuating the space between the mould and film so as to press the insert into the adhesive or gel-coat, (e) removing the film, (f) closing the mould, (g) introducing a liquid foamable reaction mixture into the mould cavity and (h) foaming the reaction mixture to completion. The sealing (c) is preferably effected by evacuating the air from the sealing zone. The adhesive or gel-coat (a) may be an unsaturated polyester resin, an epoxy resin or, preferably, a polyurethane-based polyaddition system. The reinforcement may be fibres, perforated webs, woven fabrics or non-wovens of metal, glass or plastics. The foam may be polyurethane.
