Abstract

1378404 Fat-containing compositions AGRO SPECIAL FEEDSTUFFS Ltd 23 June 1972 [23 June 1971] 29556/72. Heading A2B [Also in Division B5] In a method of preparing a particulate, free flowing mixture of a fat or fat blend with a powdered material such as Skimmed milk, the molten fat is cooled to a temperature below its slip melting point, extruded into ribbons, and the ribbons cut into particles whilst being simultaneously mixed with the powder. The fat or fat blend may comprise one or more of coconut oil, palm oil, soya oil, ground nut oil, palm kernel oil, rape seed oil, sesame oil, sunflower oil, cotton seed oil, beef suet, mutton fat, lard, fish oil, and whale oil. Emulsifiers (soya lecithin), surface active agents, antioxidants (butyl hydroxytoluene), or scenting and flavouring materials may be used. The powdered material may comprise one or more of skimmed milk powder, whey powder, starch, dextrose, maltose, saccharine, soya flour, fish solubles, protein preparations, minerals, vitamins, anti-biotics, enzymes or chemotherapeutics. In one example a blend of beef suet, lard, soya lecithin and butylhydroxy toluene was extruded and chopped whilst being coated with a mixture of skimmed milk powder (68%), starch (15%), whey powder (15%) and minerals and vitamins, the fat:powder ratio being 2:4. In a second example, a mixture of lard and palm kernel oil, lecithin and glycerol mono-oleate was coated with a mixture of skimmed milk (25%), soya flour (25%), whey powder (10%), whey powder having a low lactose content (15%) buttermilk powder (10%) and minerals and vitamins. The particulate mixtures produced do not show any tendency to coagulate and are readily dispersible to water.
