Abstract

1377187 Sealing glass to glass EMI Ltd 16 Feb 1972 [26 Feb 1971] 5512/71 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] The faceplate of an electrostatic printing cathode-ray tube comprises two glass blocks 2 and 3, Fig. 2, sealed together with a plurality of conducting paths 4 of deposited material extending between them from the interior to the exterior of the envelope. The paths 4 may be deposited on the block 2 by screen printing, or if greater accuracy is required by a photo-etching method. The two blocks are sealed together by fusion or by a glass solder, and the assembly is ground to remove excess solder or sealing distortion and joined to the remaining envelope portion by means of a glass frit. If desired a plurality of further conductive paths are provided on the inner surface of the faceplate before it is joined to the envelope; each further path extends normal to the line of paths 4 and intersects one of them so that the electron beam need not be aligned accurately on the line.
