Chain-wheels; tension arrangements.-A chaintrack driving sprocket for tractors and like vehicles is designed to clear the chain links of dirt and to adjust the chain to the sprocket automatically as the chain wears. The teeth of the sprocket are bevelled at 16, 17, Fig. 6, and recesses 18, 19 are formed between the teeth. Dirt on the chain track is forced by the teeth into the spaces between the links and escapes through openings in the side rails 20 of the track. The contour of the teeth is such that the chain tends to ride up the faces of the teeth as it stretches, and the driving- pressure is thus distributed around the sprocket. With this object, the face of each tooth at the pitch-circle c is inclined to the radius a, Fig. 5, at an angle greater than 20 degrees, and the radius of curvature of the face is equal to four times the length of a chain link.
