Abstract

1376765 Rotary I C engines DAIMLERBENZ AG 4 Oct 1972 [8 Oct 1971 7 June 1972] 45775/72 Heading F1F A rotary piston internal combustion engine of trochoidal type comprises shield members 12, 13 on either side of the eccentric 1 to be splashed from the rotor-eccentric bearing on to the axial seals 8 and the housing end walls 5. The shield 12 is annular and is held between the rotor 3 and a ring gear 4 mounted thereon, the internal diameter of shield 12 being slightly larger than the eccentric diameter. Shield 13 is secured by screws 14 to face 15 of eccentric 1 and has a radially outer axially off-set portion 13 which extends outwardly beyond the rotor-eccentric bearing. To facilitate mounting of shield 13, it has an opening 18, Fig.2, open in the direction opposite to the projection of the eccentric 1, for straddling driveshaft 2. Alternative configurations of shields 12, 13 are also described Figs.3 to 6 (not shown).
