Abstract

1376379 Synthetic silicate clays PFIZER Inc 19 April 1972 [24 May 1971] 18230/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] A synthetic clay (Example 1) of formula [Si 8 Mg 5À3 , Li 0À7 (OH) 4 O 20 ]Na 0À7 is prepared by (A) dissolving sodium silicate and sodium carbonate in water at 140‹ F.; (B) adding solution (A) to a stirred solution of magnesium sulphate in water at 205‹ F. over a period of 29 mins.; (C) allowing the mixture to digest at 206‹ F. for 1¢ hours; (D) filtering slurry (C), washing the resultant cake with water and forming a viscous solution of the cake with added lithium carbonate and sodium carbonate; (E) autoclaving material (D) under 150 p.s.i. pressure at 365‹ F. for 16 hours; (F) drying and powdering the resultant cake. In a similar manner, clays of the following formulae are prepared:-[Si 8 Mg 5À3 Li 0À7 (OH) 4 O 20 ]Li 0À7 (Example II); [Si 8 Mg 5À3 Li 0À7 (OH) 2À78 F 1À22 O 20 ]Na 0À 7 (Example III); [Si 8 Mg 5À38 Li 0À62 (OH) 3 FO 20 ]Na 0À62 (Example IV). The synthetic clays are used as anti-redeposition agents in detergent compositions [see Division C5].
