Abstract
1376297 Tufting machines CARD & CO Inc 27 Sept 1971 [29 Oct 1970] 44888/71 Heading D1G A tufting machine has two needle bars 17, 18 one above the other, the top one carrying longer needles 19 and having a longer stroke to form larger loops. The top needles pass through passages 26 in the lower needle bar and pass further into the fabric to co-operate with lower loopers 56. The upper loopers 55 co-operate with the shorter needles of bar 18. The top needle bar is attached directly to at least one reciprocating drive rod 21 while the lower needle bar is attached by brackets 23 to at least one drive rod 22. Each rod is attached to a rocking lever 33 through a link arm 30 or 35, but link arm 35 is attached to its lever further from the axis of a rocking shaft 34 to give the top needle bar a longer stroke. The rocking shaft 34 is oscillated via a drive from a shaft 49 includes an eccentric 48, an arm 47, a bell crank 44 pivoted on a shaft 45 and a link bar 40. The loopers are carried by a bar 57 and knife bar 61, carrying knives 60 to produce a cut pile, is driven by rocking arms 58.
