1374680 Cryogenic cables COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 24 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 18969/72 Headings H1A and A4D A tubular casing 1 surrounding the conductors 4 of a cryogenic cable is made of an iron and nickel alloy having a nickel content of between 30 and 45% e.g. "Invar" (Registered Trade Mark) and within the casing, surrounding the conductors, is a metal screen of low resistivity, less than 3 x 10<SP>-8</SP> ohm. metres at room temperature, for example aluminium or copper. The screen and the casing may form a laminated strip which is then formed round the conductors and welded at 3. The thickness of the screen should be such that induced alternating fields do not reach the magnetic casing, thereby reducing losses. A fluid, e.g. helium, may flow within the casing.
