Conducting layers applied to conductors or cables as in the parent Specification to attenuate high frequency fault or surge currents have high magnetic permeability as well as high resistivity. Suitable materials are iron, steel, nickel or alloys thereof and the layers which may be applied in the form of wires or tapes may have a thickness in the range of 0À1 to 2 mm. The layers may be applied to superconductors.
