Abstract
1,225,368. Cables. CERRO CORP. 27 March, 1968 [16 May, 1967], No. 14762/68. Heading H1A. A hermetically sealable electrical cable, particularly for use in temperatures of 1000‹ F., has inorganic insulation and a snugly fitting metal sheath formed of at least 99À90% nickel. The insulation may be glass, mica, quartz or asbestos and the inner conductor nickel-clad copper, nickel-clad silver, stainless-steel clad copper, rhodium, nickel-clad aluminium, nickel iron copper or a chromium aluminium alloy. The sheath may be wrapped around the insulation and butt-welded along its length. The sheath may be smooth or corrugated. The insulation may comprise two layers, the inner one, for example, consisting of glass bonded with mica and the outer one of a glass braid. A metallic braid layer may be arranged between the insulation and the nickel sheath and may consist of a stainless steel, nickel or one of a variety of nickel alloys listed.
