1374568 Phosphatizing PYRENE CHEMICAL SERVICES Ltd 27 April 1973 20206/73 Addition to 1296883 Heading C7U A metal is phosphatized by application of a fluoride-free solution containing Zn, ClO 3 <SP>-</SP> and NO 3 <SP>-</SP>, the ratios of components being P 2 O 5 = 1; Zn = 0À2 to 0À7; ClO 3 = 0À2 to 0À5 and NO 3 <SP>-</SP> = 0À1 to 0À3. the concentration of phosphate (as P 2 O 5 ) being 3 to 25 g/l and the total acid points being 5 to 25 times the free acid points, and the solution is periodically replenished with a mixture wherein the ratios are P 2 O 5 = 1; Zn = 0À2 to 0À7; ClO 3 = 0À01 to 0À25; and NO 3 = greater than 0À05 to not greater than 0À23, all ratios being by weight. The solution may also contain Ca, borate, 0À001 to 0À025% of Ni, Co, or Cu, and 0À3 to 2 g/l of a metal accelerator or coating refining additive, e.g. a glycerophosphate, complex phosphate, tartaric or citric acid, and the solution is applied to Fe, steel or Zn at not more than 130‹F, e.g. 85‹F to 130‹F.
