Abstract

137,376. Taylor, T. W. Jan. 15, 1919. Joints.-A means for fixing a broom handle or the leg of a chair or stool &c. in its socket, comprises a device having two metal side plate members and a base or end member so bent or shaped that when the handle &c. is driven down to the base lying in the socket, the base is extended or elongated so that spikes are forced into the sides of the socket. As shown, the device is bent from sheet metal, the two side members c' having holes f for fixing by screws &c. to the handle &c. b when it has been driven home in the socket d of the brush a &c., and the base being bent upwardly as at c<2>. The bend c<2> may be replaced by corrugations. Spikes c<3> are formed out of the metal, and these enter the walls of the socket d when the handle b is driven home and flattens the bent base c<2>. The bent base may be a separate piece with its ends passed through holes in the lower ends of the side members and formed with spikes. The side members c<1> may have spikes for driving into the handle &c. instead of the screw-holes f.
