Abstract

1372476 Cables TREFIMETAUX GP 2 June 1972 [3 June 1971] 25894/72 Heading H1A A cable for high voltage direct current has polyethylene insulation optionally surrounded by a semi-conducting layer either or both of which layers having added thereto approx. 2% of a depolarizing agent which may be manganese dioxide, vanadium or chromium peroxide, to increase resistance to dielectric breakdown. The cable as described may form one strand of a multi-strand cable and/or have a fourth layer comprising a metallic or insulating sheath. The addition of depolarizing agent may be restricted to regions where the dielectric strength is strong.
