Abstract

1372104 Moulding packages SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 23 Dec 1971 59993/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] An article, e.g. a grinding-wheel, is enveloped in a foamed plastics material which incorporates a plane of weakness along which the material may be made to cleave to remove the article, the plane of weakness being formed by including a sheet of the same material as the foamed plastics but of lesser density. In an example the article was supported on a block of expanded polystyrene in an aluminium mould equipped with a steam chest on two sides and drainage holes on the other sides. The sheet with a central aperture for the article was placed over the article and the mould filled with polystyrene beads. The mould was then heated by the steam. The article may be protected by a layer of paper or polyethylene.
