[Also in Division E1] Blocks or slabs of expanded polystyrene are reinforced with aluminium, preferably expanded aluminium, by placing the reinforcement in the top and/or bottom and/or sides of the mould used to form the blocks or slabs. The blocks &c. may also be faced on one or both sides with synthetic resin, paper, or textile material. As shown in Fig. 1, the reinforcement a is applied to blocks b, c formed with interfitting tongues and grooves d, e. Fig. 2 shows tapered pins f, which may have heads g, used to secure expanded aluminium moulded into the surface of blocks of expanded polystyrene. Specification 961,135 is referred to.
